REMOVING
THE FIRST COST.

Being built

The costs that keep somebody out of commerce are small and they come before any revenue: a permit, a verification, a sample run, a first booth. Being unable to front a small amount is not a business problem — it is an access problem, and it is the one the Mission Fund exists for.

The barrier is the timing, not the size

Almost every one of these costs is modest and every one of them is due before anything has been earned. Someone with no capital cannot start, however good the business would have been.

Where the money would come from

The Mission Fund, which accrues from a share of every protocol fee and is reconciled against the ledger before every deploy. It is a real balance rather than a pledge, which is what makes this possible to fund rather than only to announce.

Access, not equity

The point is removing a cost that blocks a start, not taking a stake in what follows. A programme that takes ownership in exchange for a small grant has recreated the gatekeeper with better branding.

Status

Designed, not built. The Mission Fund accrues today and is checked by invariants; the disbursement programme — criteria, application and decision — does not exist yet.
