REQUIREMENTS.

Live now

Every large retailer publishes a vendor guide specifying exactly how to label, pack, route and document a shipment. It reads as bureaucracy and it is actually a price list: each rule has a penalty attached, and the penalties are where wholesale margin goes.

The guide is the contract in practice

Routing instructions, carton labelling, pallet configuration, ASN timing and delivery windows are all specified. Deviating from any of them is chargeable at a rate the guide itself states, which means the cost of getting it wrong is knowable in advance.

What differs between retailers

Almost everything, which is why a profile held per retailer beats one internal standard applied to all of them. Two retailers can want opposite things, and the one you standardised against is not the one charging you.

  • Carton label format and barcode symbology
  • Which carrier, on whose account, from which door
  • Delivery appointment windows and how early is too early
  • ASN timing, and what must be in it

Read it before the first order

The first order is where the compliance mistakes are made and where a relationship is being judged. Reading the guide during onboarding costs an afternoon; learning it from deductions costs a year of margin.

What GRAJ holds

A profile per retailer with their requirements and the deductions taken against you, linked to the orders they came from — so a pattern is visible as a pattern rather than as a series of unrelated small deductions.
