SELLING IT
ON, VERIFIABLY.

Being built

Secondhand markets are limited by one thing: the buyer cannot verify what they are buying. Provenance closes that gap and it has to be built at the first sale — a history that starts when somebody decides to resell has a gap exactly where the doubt lives.

Provenance is what is being bought

Two identical items, one with a verifiable history and one without, are not worth the same. The record is the difference, and it cannot be assembled retroactively without becoming an assertion.

The original brand has a stake in this

Resale carrying provenance keeps a brand connected to items after the first sale and gives it a real defence against counterfeits. Resale without it gives it neither and happens anyway.

Condition needs a shared vocabulary

"Good condition" means different things to a seller and a buyer. A grading standard applied consistently is what makes a remote resale possible without an argument on arrival.

Status

Designed, not built. It depends on unit-level identity, which the provenance trail describes and which is also not built.
