A guarantee that cannot be checked is a promise. Each of these is enforced by something mechanical — a database invariant, an append-only constraint or a rule in the settlement engine — and where the protocol cannot guarantee something, this page says so instead.

Every party owed from an order is computed together and the parts sum to the whole, to the cent. This is checked by an invariant before every deploy, not asserted in documentation.
The event log is append-only. Contribution, ownership and residual entitlement are derived from it, so removing somebody's history would require removing the events, which the database does not permit.
The protocol does not clear customs, does not file tax returns, does not issue certificates or invoices where a jurisdiction requires a licensed provider, and does not underwrite credit. Where a determination is legal rather than factual it is flagged rather than decided.
