Settings → Applications & invites has three switches — take applications, take invitations, show me in the directory — and a short note for whoever is turned away. Pressing Apply or Invite on a closed profile says so in the participant's own words and offers a message instead; the database refuses a new application or invitation through any door while the switch is off. Applications already waiting stay waiting, partnerships are untouched, and every change is recorded and listed on the same screen.
